The BMW all-wheel drive system not only thinks when you do, it thinks ahead. Variable torque split means that you can always rely on perfect traction. And you will be amazed by the agility, precision and safety of your driving experience, even when cornering at high speeds.
BMW xDrive is BMW's permanent all-wheel drive system. In normal driving conditions, it works with a basic torque split of 40 to 60 percent between front and rear axle. The torque bias between the axles is adjusted according to different road friction coefficient or driving situation. The BMW xDrive's sensation of agility is at its most impressive in hairpin bends or when cornering at high speeds. Every ounce of performance is turned into acceleration, making the driver feel as if their BMW were pulled out of the bend by a giant winch.

Joy is Flexible – Dynamic
Dynamic Performance Control (DPC) gives the BMW X6, BMW X6 M and BMW X5 M their
unique cornering ability. The split torque bias between left and right rear
wheel increases traction and handling, allowing a more precise steering into
corners – and perfect grip when accelerating out again. The result: precise
driving performance regardless of road conditions. Together with the BMW
xDrive, Dynamic Performance Control ensures improved agility and driving
dynamics on any terrain.
BMW xDrive for optimum traction.
The system is equipped with a multi-disk clutch, which needs just a few
seconds to distribute the torque between front and rear wheels as required. The
torque is distributed smoothly, continuously adjusting to the driving
situation. In extreme situations, one axle can get all of the power.
Joy does not know bad weather – only driving fun.
However, unlike other all-wheel drive systems, BMW xDrive also ensures
close road holding on slippery surfaces – without sacrificing that special
rear-wheel drive sensation. BMW’s intelligent all-wheel drive system transmits
torque to the wheels at the speed of lightning to guarantee optimum traction.
Hill descent control at the push of a button.
The Hill Descend Control* supports the all-wheel drive system perfectly by
automatically maintaining the optimum speed on steep downhill drives, thereby
relieving the driver of the need for brake control in a difficult situation.
The driver can concentrate fully on steering - making tricky off-road and
downhill situations as easy as 123. *HDC available in some BMW xDrive models
